Special Programs
MAKING A DIFFERENCE SPECIAL PROGRAMS
2-1-1 Broward partners with community organizations to bring special services
to residents.
EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT PROGRAM
The EITC is a reimbursement for low to moderate income wage earners instituted as an
anti-poverty program over 30 years ago. During these difficult times, the EITC—together with other anti-poverty efforts such as KidCare, Food Stamps, Out of School Time feeding programs, Homeless to Homebuyer and first time home buyer tax allowances, and more—is a key
component of the economic stimulus efforts.
In 2002, after seeing studies that indicated that $99 Million of EITC dollars lay unclaimed because of a lack of knowledge of its availability, the CSC began promoting EITC through county-wide public awareness campaigns in collaboration with community partners, including 2-1-1 Broward. Listeners are directed to call 2-1-1 to locate a convenient free VITA tax preparation site. Last year, 2-1-1 provided 3,232 callers with referrals, an increase of 99.6% over the prior year.
For more information on EITC, visit the Children’s Services Council’s website.

HEALTH INTERVENTION & TARGETED SERVICES
2-1-1 Broward partners with Memorial Healthcare System to offer the HITS
Program which is designed to connect uninsured callers with health care. Callers
are linked with Memorial’s outreach workers for enrollment into primary and preventive care programs.
If you or someone you know is uninsured, call 2-1-1 to speak with a Counselor about HITS
EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER PROGRAMS
2-1-1 Broward serves as the clearinghouse for the Emergency Food and
Shelter Program, which provides rent assistance funds. By maintaining a list
of rent assistance recipients, agencies have a single location to call and assure that
services are not duplicated for a client or family.
If you are in need of rent assistance, please call 2-1-1.
HOMELESS PREVENTION & RAPID REHOUSING PROGRAM (HPRP)
The HPRP funded by federal stimulus dollars and administered by Broward County,
City of Fort Lauderdale and City of Pompano Beach, helps families with rent
assistance and other services in order to prevent them from becoming homeless.
Under the lead of BRHPC, 2-1-1 Broward serves as the first point of client
contact, providing screenings and follow-up with clients. Click Here For More Information on HPRP
If you are on the verge of becoming homeless, please call 2-1-1 to speak with a Counselor.
PHONE BASED CASE ASSISTANCE
With a generous grant from A. D. Henderson, 2-1-1 now offers support and follow-up to callers and families who are new to the health and human service system. A Case Manager will guide them through the procedures and paperwork requirements to ensure that families are successful in obtaining the benefits and services they need.
