Board Member Spotlight: Ronnie Oller

Gregory A. Haile

Dear Friends,
Most, if not all of you, recognize the value of being well-connected. Whether it be fulfilling our basic needs of food, shelter, and income, or the desire to achieve uncompromising excellence in our chosen professions, being connected to relevant resources can provide an invaluable boost to the pursuit of our goals.

As the Board Chair of 2-1-1 Broward, I think about the 120,000+ calls per year that we receive from people who have no connections or have not been able to make the most appropriate connections needed just to survive, let alone thrive. 2-1-1 Broward provides a targeted assessment of every caller’s needs, emotional support for each caller, information, and “connections” in the form of referrals to community providers that can help address their situation.

Because connections are so vital to our success, 2-1-1 Broward’s focus this year will be on making new connections and strengthening existing connections. We will enhance our relationships with individuals who are in need, service providers, the business sector, law enforcement, and municipal representatives. We also want to connect with each of you and there are so many ways to do that. Here are just a few ways to “get connected:”

• Corporate Partnership Program – This program provides businesses with customized outreach and marketing. There are various levels of partnerships available. Some of our current partners are AutoNation, JM Family, FPL, Consolidated Credit Counseling, Calvin, Giordano & Assoc., and SunTrust.

• CLUB2-1-1–This exclusive “connecting” club is sponsored by BankAtlantic, and offers members the opportunity to connect with other corporate and community leadersat 4 FREE events per year to share information about their companies or services. The CLUB also offers opportunities to market its members or their businesses via online CLUB sites and communications. Click to view Club 2-1-1 Event Gallery.

• “Making REAL Connections” Breakfast- On November 3, 2011 2-1-1 Broward will honor 5 community partners who have had a positive impact on the agency this past year: BankAtlantic, Broward Regional Health Planning Council, Broward Sheriff’s Office, City of Oakland Park, Consolidated Credit Counseling and Kip Hunter Marketing.

• BankAtlantic Non-Profit Academy Awards – 2-1-1 Broward will present the 2nd annual awards event on February 24, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Sponsorships and nominations will be available starting September 23, 2011.

• “The 100 Connections Campaign” –When 2-1-1 Broward relocates to its new offices in early October, we will launch a campaign to make 100 new connections by June 30, 2012– big ones, small ones, deep ones, quiet ones, exuberant ones. Watch for the campaign kick-off in October.

• Provider Network Center – By December 31, 2011,2-1-1 Broward will launch the “Provider Network Center,”a central hub for non-profit providers to share information, resources, and knowledge. Some of the features to be included are a job post/search engine, board member listings, provider online news, direct access to 2-1-1 online resource database, and a listserve for providers only.

So as you plan for the coming year, I hope you will get or stay “connected” to 2-1-1 Broward. We are eager to hear your ideas for ways that we can enhance our connections with you and others in the community and ensure that our programs and initiatives continue to add value. Please contact Laurie Sallarulo at 954-390-0493 or lsallarulo@211-broward.org for more details about 2-1-1 Broward or on these programs and events.

Best wishes,
Gregory A. Haile
2-1-1 Broward Board Chair
