DEAF THEATRE JAM Rocks the House in Plantation
LEAGUE FOR THE HARD OF HEARING (LHH), in collaboration with SOUTH PLANTATION HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE, presents the 1st Annual DEAF THEATRE JAM at the Paladin Playhouse in Plantation, FL on August 7th, 2008 at 7:00pm. This original and unique production features the theatrical, musical, and dance talents of middle school students, the majority of whom are deaf or hard-of-hearing, at their best!
Through their participation in “YOUTH FORCE” a year round after school and summer program offered by LHH and funded by the Children’s Services Council, students are receiving the finest instruction available in music, dance, pantomime, acting and technical theatre. Under the direction of South Plantation High School Theatre Directors Michelle Terl and Jason Zembuch, and along with specialty guest instructors Eric Alsford, Graciela Binaghi, and John Hensley, these students are ready to rock audiences with their variety show performance.
The six-week camp portion of the program being held at South Plantation High School was conceived to give these students an opportunity to excel in a creative and nurturing environment. Additionally, as a community service project, in lieu of charging admission, donations will be collected at the performance for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, the nation’s leading industry based HIV/AIDS fundraising and grant-making organization. Working with theatre professionals, certified interpreters, and volunteers from the SPHS theatre program, the campers are building confidence, making friends, and demonstrating excellence in areas that were heretofore largely inaccessible to them.
Don’t miss the exciting debut of a performance that is sure to astound and enlighten!
