At Publix, we excel in community involvement, volunteerism and a commitment to our market areas and beyond. We have done this as a company and as individuals because of our genuine caring for others. It is part of our company culture of giving. George W. Jenkins established a foundation with his own stock as means of investing in the needs of our communities. The foundation benefits from the growth of the company which is the result of hard work by Publix associates. The foundation, now called Publix Super Markets Charities, focuses on youth and education. It helps propel the Take Stock in Children student learning and mentoring program and the George W. Jenkins Scholarship Program for college students. Publix Super Markets Charities participates in a broad group of organizations, including United Way, Habitat for Humanity and local YMCA’s.
The passion of helping others, which is the cornerstone of the foundation, is evident throughout the company. Publix associates serve their communities in many ways. They have spent thousands of hours volunteering at different agencies and schools. One of those agencies is the Untied Way, where associate contributions have risen 26 percent during the last five years. Publix associates and Publix Super Markets Charities have contributed more than 170 million dollars to the United Way over the last five years, in an effort to better the lives of many. The generosity of Publix associates and customers extends to other programs such as the Special Olympics, March of Dimes, Children’s Miracle Network, and Food for All. South Florida Publix Super Markets and their customers successfully raised over $1.5 million through the 2010 holiday season “Food For All” program, benefiting over 70 local charitable organizations. Publix is also a proud supporter of 211 Broward.
